Convene Community Resources
United Way convenes community resources—including dollars garnered from our annual fundraising campaign, volunteers throughout the year and community advocates who speak out for important causes—to advance the common good in Rochester. We thank the thousands of people in Rochester who give their time, money and voice to LIVE UNITED.
ACT Rochester
ACT Rochester builds on community strengths and helps solve critical problems through community debate, discussion and engagement. ACT Rochester's web site offers detailed information about our region, profiles of all seven counties, 125 community indicators organized into 12 program categories, trend summaries and community resources for each category, hundreds of charts and graphs and much more. It also provides links to more than 300 local community resources.
American Red Cross Greater Rochester Chapter
The American Red Cross Greater Rochester Chapter is United Way of Greater Rochester’s fundraising partner. The organization assists families who have been victims of disaster, connects service members and their families during major life events, works to help ensure affordable meals are available for the elderly and homebound, and recruits and trains volunteers for blood collecting efforts. The Red Cross also helps prepare the local community for emergencies and disasters and teaches lifesaving skills such as CPR and First Aid.
2-1-1
2-1-1 helps connect people to local human services, including emergency food, shelter, clothing, counseling, substance abuse issues, financial and legal issues, and physical and mental health needs. 2-1-1 is available locally through Finger Lakes 2-1-1, which covers an eleven county region as is managed in partnership by ABVI-Goodwill Industries.
Creating Assets, Savings, and Hope (C.A.S.H.)
C.A.S.H. is a community partnership lead by Empire Justice Center and United Way to expand the network of providers delivering free income tax preparation services to low income working families to help them maximize the earned income tax credit. This is a first step in helping families make the most of their money and build stronger economic futures through financial coaching, matched savings accounts, credit repair and asset building strategies.
Partners Against Violence Everywhere (PAVE) Initiative
PAVE brings together human service agencies, law enforcement and community members in a series of anti-violence programs that remove illegal handguns from the streets, rebuild trust amongst residents and law enforcement, and provide support to children who have lost a family member to violence. United Way serves as a member of the PAVE initiative that is led by Camp Good Days and Special Times.
