100 DAYS, 100 WAYS TO LIVE UNITED

Thanks to our wonderful donors, volunteers and community members, United Way made great change with the $28,021,372 raised to support critical programs in our community. BUT WAIT - it doesn’t end there! Join us for the 100 Days, 100 Ways to Live United challenge to continue helping our community year-round.

  • Day 1 - Mow an elderly neighbor's lawn
  • Day 2 - Volunteer to help with outside cleanup at a local school
  • Day 3 - Plant flowers at a local park
  • Day 4 - Become a mentor for a local kid
  • Day 5 - Volunteer to help at a local recreation center
  • Day 6 - Donate flowers to a local nursing home or longterm care facility and brighten the day of some of our aging community members
  • Day 7 - Drive a person with a disability to an appointment or community event
  • Day 8 - Host a clothing drive at work to help a local shelter
  • Day 9 - Learn some basic sign language
  • Day 10 - Donate bottles, formula and baby shampoo to a shelter
  • Day 11 - Support local farmers by signing up for a fresh-foods co-op or shopping at a local farmers market
  • Day 12 - Say "Thank You" to public servants like Police Officers and Firefighters who work hard to keep us safe throughout the year
  • Day 13 - Offer to carry groceries for a person with a disability
  • Day 14 - Leave CHANGE in a vending machine for someone to have a free treat
  • Day 15 - Donate blood
  • Day 16 - Contact a senior center or long term care facility to find out if you can bring your pet in for a visit
  • Day 17 - Offer to watch a friend or neighbor's young children to help parents take a quick break or run errands
  • Day 18 - Clean grafitti from neighborhood walls and buildings
  • Day 19 - Call your local library branch and see if you can start a children's story hour to help enrich the lives of kids in your neighborhood.
  • Day 20 - Get in shape and help your community! Sign up for a run, walk or bike ride to benefit a nonprofit.
  • Day 21 - Offer to help a senior write a memoir or create a scrapbook.
  • Day 22 - Offer to cook a meal for a family with a newborn
  • Day 23 - Heading on a road trip this weekend? Pay the toll for the person behind you
  • Day 24 - Gather personal care items like soap, a toothbrush, and shampoo for people staying at a shelter
  • Day 25 - Help an older person with a chore around the house
  • Day 26 - Bring healthy snacks to a local youth program
  • Day 27 - Become a C.A.S.H. coach - visit www.empirejustice.org to learn more
  • Day 28 - Discover a troubling community trend and learn how to help - visit the ACT Rochester website to get involved.
  • Day 29 - Make your neighborhood beautiful by cleaning up litter.
  • Day 30 - Volunteer to teach a class at a local senior center
  • Day 31 - Take a person with a disability shopping or out of the house for the day
  • Day 32 - Offer your seat on the bus to someone in need
  • Day 33 - Donate toys and books to a local preschools or daycare
  • Day 34 - Plant flowers or plants at a local school
  • Day 35 - Volunteer to tutor a student or group of students at a local school
  • Day 36 - Help children prepare to go back to school, donate thumb drives and other school supplies to YWCA's downtown location
  • Day 37 - Help families prepare for the cold weather ahead, participate in the Salvation Army's Project Bundle Up
  • Day 38 - Carry an older person's groceries to their car or into their house
  • Day 39 - Conduct a drive for school supplies and deliver them to a local youth shelter
  • Day 40 - Help an aging person cross the street
  • Day 41 - When doing your laundry, leave CHANGE in a washer or dryer at the laundromat
  • Day 42 - Be green! Ride your bike to work or to run errands instead of driving your car
  • Day 43 - Learn how to use the new hands-only CPR technique from the Greater Rochester Red Cross
  • Day 44 - Help a neighbor plant bulbs in their garden - they'll be a pleasant surprise in the Spring!
  • Day 45 - Donate wrapped candy to Center for Disability Rights for their Halloween event
  • Day 46 - Lend a hand, help a neighbor or friend move
  • Day 47 - Help an elderly neighbor take their trash or recycling to the curb
  • Day 48 - Donate single use cameras or photographic paper & supplies to the Charles Settlement House
  • Day 49 - Offer to grocery shop for a person with a disability
  • Day 50 - Take pride in Rochester - enjoy the fall foliage while touring a local landmark
  • Day 51 - Rake the leaves at an older person's house
  • Day 52 - Volunteer to clean play areas and toys at a local community center or shelter
  • Day 53 - Sit on a non-profit board or committee and make your voice heard
  • Day 54 - Trick or Treat for food and/or toiletries and then donate them to a local shelter
  • Day 55 - Give your CHANGE to the person in line behind you at a coffee shop and help brighten their day
  • Day 56 - Offer to play an instrument or sing at a senior center
  • Day 57 - Donate a bag of groceries to a local homeless shelter
  • Day 58 - Donate games or craft supplies to an after-school program
  • Day 59 - Make a home-cooked meal for a person with a disability
  • Day 60 - Offer to walk an older person's dog or join them for a stroll around the neighborhood
  • Day 61 - Add $2, $3 or $5 to your Wegmans shopping bill and support Foodlink's Check Out Hunger campaign
  • Day 62 - Donate pajamas and toiletries to the YMCA
  • Day 63 - Become a Hillside Family of Agencies Special Santa & make a family's holiday season bright
  • Day 64 - Help a person with a disability into a building or to their car
  • Day 65 - Donate books to a local school or classroom
  • Day 66 - Send holiday cards to people at a local nursing home‎
  • Day 67 - Run an errand for someone
  • Day 68 - Offer to play music or sing at a senior center
  • Day 69 - Add $1, $2, or $5 to your next RG&E bill to support the Greater Rochester Red Cross/RG&E Heating Fund and keep a family warm this winter
  • Day 70 - Host a holiday or end of year celebration for a local school or center
  • Day 71 - Bring holiday cards to people at a local shelter
  • Day 72 - Make dinner for a grandparent, shut-in or someone you know with a chronic illness
  • Day 73 - Make or buy hats and gloves to keep local children warm this winter
  • Day 74 - Offer to drive an aging neighbor to the grocery store or a doctor's appointment
  • Day 75 - Share your newspaper, magazines, or already read books with a neighbor or local community center

  • Day 77 - Donate professional clothes to the Salvation Army for people who are getting back into the workforce
  • Day 78 - Offer to clean an older person's house or car

  • Day 80 - Become a Lifespan volunteer to help combat isolation in older adults
  • Day 81 - Volunteer at a community center to help teach kids basic computer skills
  • Day 82 - Volunteer at a Rochester City School and help children succeed
  • Day 83 - Sit with someone who is disabled so their caregiving can get a few hours to themselves
  • Day 84 - Support a parent education group with refreshments
  • Day 85 - Participate in the Jewish Family Service's Brighton Food Cupboard "Stock a Shelf" Program
  • Day 86 - Make birthday cards for people at a senior center or long term care facility
  • Day 87 - Volunteer to cook a meal for youth at a local shelter to help them gain a skill, and learn healthy meal preparation
  • Day 88 - Play bingo, poker or another game at a long term care facility or nursing home
  • Day 89 - Make Valentine's Day cards and drop them off at a shelter
  • Day 90 - Donate young children's clothing, baby bottles, and other essential items to Alternatives For Battered Women
  • Day 91 - Hold the door for a person with a disability
  • Day 92 - Read a book with a child
  • Day 93 - Donate an old video game system to a youth shelter or after-school program
  • Day 94 - Ask someone how their day was and really stop to listen
  • Day 95 - Volunteer at a hospice
  • Day 96 - Volunteer to read to a classroom or daycare
  • Day 97 - Perform a random act of kindness for a stranger
  • Day 98 - Pick up garbage in a local park or in your neighborhood
  • Day 99 - Bring flowers to teachers at a local school
